It was revealed in Makkah because it is a Makkan Surah. In the opening verses of the Surah, Allah is praised and the Kauthar, a river in Paradise that He gave to Prophet Muhammad, is mentioned (peace be upon him). The text continues by mentioning the Prophet and his followers as recipients of Allah's immeasurable benefits. The Surah Kauthar also discusses the retribution that the Muslims' and the Prophet's enemies will endure in the Hereafter. Then it concludes with a call to the believers to hold fast to their faith and to express gratitude for Allah's benefits.
