All 4 new Rolex 2020 collection updates, plus a watch you might have missed While 2019 brought subtle improvements to Rolex's workhorse watches, a turbulent 2020 brought uncertainty first — first, given the pandemic, we weren't sure if Rolex would release anything, followed by a wide-ranging September announcement. An update to the Four Crown Pillars series is discussed. Rolex has rarely, if ever, changed its winning formula, and 2020 is more about subtle changes to refinement and refinement than anything revolutionary. In these new editions, legibility and wearability remain the name of the game, emphasizing what Rolex does best: a gradual evolution of watch design and technical details, aimed at improving products that retain the same core values that captivate consumers by offering them to maximize owner satisfaction first. Rolex lovers no doubt know that the brand's philosophy has long focused on improving and perfecting every detail of its watches. This continued commitment is one of the reasons why Rolex enjoys overwhelming success and reputation around the world. So, without further ado, here are four major new watches from Rolex for 2020, as well as a surprise variant in the Datejust 31 collection that you might have missed. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date Following the launch of Rolex's 2020 watches, the newer generation of Submariners has become one of the reasons for the social media frenzy. The original Submariner was Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf’s attempt at deep-water resistance: the first Submariner came out in 1953 and was the first diver’s watch rated to 100 meters. Just a year later, it had grown to 200 meters. In 1969, the Submariner received a date window, and by 1979 it could dive to a then-unbelievable 300 meters. As mentioned earlier, there is no compelling reason for Rolex to create entirely new versions of these watches rather than keep improving them. So the change between this generation and the previous generation is very small. What has changed so slightly is the proportions of the new Submariner. For the 2020 generation, the diameter has been slightly increased from 40.86mm to 41.3mm in order to slightly improve the presence on the wrist. The lugs are 0.5mm thinner and the crown protector is smaller. The distance between the lugs has been increased from 20mm to 21mm. The dial has also been slightly reworked, the biggest change being the hands, now taken from the Deepsea model. The green dial has been discontinued, making the new dial black on the stainless steel model with the green bezel. The Submariner Date is currently available in stainless steel with a black dial and either a black Cerachrom bezel or a green Cerachrom bezel. It is also available in a variety of gold color combinations: two two-tone (steel and gold) models with blue dial with blue bezel or black dial with black bezel; gold with blue dial and blue bezel or black dial and black bezel; and white gold, blue bezel and black dial.
