Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's national rail carrier, introduced a new initiative to ensure safety in passenger travel. For the first time in the history of the Ukrainian railroad system, security marshals began working at stations and on trains. These are specialists from the company's departmental paramilitary guards, operating incognito and designed to monitor the situation and respond to potential threats in a non-public manner. This new security model, inspired by similar practices in aviation, will build passenger confidence and increase the level of security in rail travel.
